Yoga Nidra or yogic sleep is a state of consciousness between waking and sleeping. It is a state in which the body is completely relaxed, and the person experiencing the Nidra becomes systematically and increasingly aware of the inner world by following a set of verbal instructions, similar to a guided meditation.
Being extremely relaxed, clarity of thought, unshakeable mind/body equilibrium and joyfulness are common benefits shared by people doing this practice. Yoga Nidra is among the deepest possible states of relaxation while still maintaining full consciousness.
The practice of Yoga Nidra has accumulative affects over time, meaning that our bodies develop a cellular memory of the deep relaxation and can return to it more quickly in times of stress or anxiousness.
The relaxation has been found to reduce tension, insomnia and anxiety. It has been found to reduce symptoms of stomach imbalances, PTSD, chronic fatigue syndrome, and restore normal sleeping patterns.
Take the time to breathe deep and find your calm - you won't regret it.
